Judge Finnane had earlier rebuked the defendant for his "amused contempt" as he sat,at times, smiling broadly from the dock - in the presence of his victims - during hissentencing hearing.
The judge said neither he nor his colleagues had heard of such serious crimes againstwomen, apart from war-time social breakdowns.
Judge Finnane said one of the victims had been tackled to the ground, slapped, kicked,raped and taunted throughout her ordeal.
"(She) was passed from hand to hand because she was a commodity," Judge Finnane said.
He said another was staked out on the ground by a large group of men who laughed andjeered while the rapists took their turn "before a baying pack of wolves".
"The ultimate degradation of a woman is rape," the judge said.
"It's a crime of domination and contempt."
